kingfisher fires & Roundtables
Come out to the desert for a spell.
Come to the margin and the wild.
Come to the quiet to listen. To ask the burning question. to pray. to see.
What if for a weekend or a night, the weary adult could leave behind the distractions and the digital, be silent and prayerful and alone in the dark of night, totally attentive to the nagging questions of the heart, to the stars and the barred owl and the trees, to the God who is with us? What if that adult could return for a moment to the original vocation and work the land as an act of stewardship and neighborliness? What if that adult could listen with the ears of a child to a story whose enchanting light refreshes the world? What if we let a holy discussion grow from that story, a discussion that actually matters and changes everything about the way we live? What if that adult could get away, in order to return with renewed heart and hand?
Kingfisher Fires are weekend retreats–refuges and vigils for the cultivation of resurrection in place–immersing participants in liturgies of imagination, contemplation, and love. Kingfisher Fires are offered once during each season, but focused, tailored retreats are also available.
The Kingfisher Fellowship primarily uses word-of-mouth, our most neighborly form of communication, to inform our community of details regarding these gatherings.
Kingfisher Community Roundtables, Fall 2026-Spring 2027
Kingfisher Roundtables are community, neighborly discussions that take place during each season. Our endeavor through reading and discussion is to cultivate a posture of imagination—to peer past what is apparent and situate our readings in the light of the unseen realm—contemplation—to set our eyes and hearts firmly on Christ— and love—to explore the ways our hearts and hands might respond in neighborliness and worship.
Our Fall 2026-Spring 2027 Kingfisher Roundtables are oriented around two major issues confronting us today: artificial intelligence and the exploitation of the created world. Roundtables meet 3-4 times per book, with discussions lasting around an hour or thereabouts.

Watchfires
Watchfires spring up across the city and the countryside. The beacons are lit. We want to see again. To stay vigilant. To cultivate silence and solitude in the midst of the loud and the packed and the hectic. We want to listen to the deep things.
The Kingfisher Fellowship also does occasional community Watchfires, which are one-night events of story telling, holy discussion, and solitude & prayer in various locations around our city and countryside.
